In 1981, Ratan Tata was appointed the chairman of Tata Industries, which was responsible for promoting new businesses for the Tata Group. He worked to expand the group’s presence in various sectors, including telecom, software, and chemicals.

In 1991, Ratan Tata was appointed the chairman of Tata Sons, the holding company of the Tata Group. Under his leadership, the group expanded globally, acquiring companies such as Jaguar Land Rover, Tetley, and Corus.

Achievements and Awards

Ratan Tata has received several awards for his contributions to the Indian business world. He was awarded the Padma Bhushan in 2000 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2008, two of the highest civilian awards in India.

He was also the recipient of several international awards such as the Carnegie Medal of Philanthropy in 2007 and the Grand Officer of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic in 2013.
