According to the World Health Organization (WHO), mental health refers to a state of well-being where individuals realize their potential, cope with stress, work productively, and make contributions to their communities. Any deviation from this healthy state can be classified as a mental health issue, and the resultant stigma can be quite damaging.
The stigma surrounding mental health can manifest itself in myriad ways. Some people view those with mental health issues as weak, unable to cope with normal life challenges, and often, as a burden to society. Therefore, combating the stigma surrounding mental health requires a concerted effort from everyone.
