When I think about my wellness journey, one organization that immediately comes to mind is Health 100 at JMU. This program is specifically designed for JMU students to help them make healthy choices and set wellness goals that are manageable and realistic. Since joining Health 100, I have found that my overall health and well-being have improved significantly.
One of the ways in which Health 100 has impacted my wellness journey is through their focus on nutrition. Before joining the program, I had a very limited understanding of what it means to eat healthy. However, the program provides a wealth of resources and information about nutrition, and I have learned so much about what it means to fuel your body in a healthy way. I now make more informed choices about the foods I eat, and I have noticed that I have more energy and feel better overall.
In addition to focusing on nutrition, Health 100 also emphasizes the importance of physical activity. Before joining the program, I would occasionally exercise, but I didn’t have a consistent routine. However, Health 100 encourages students to engage in at least 150 minutes of moderate exercise per week. Since joining the program, I have been more intentional about making time for movement, whether that means going for a run or attending a fitness class at the gym.
Another area in which Health 100 has been instrumental in my wellness journey is through stress management. Juggling a full course load, extracurricular activities, and a social life can be incredibly overwhelming, and it’s easy to neglect mental health in the process. However, Health 100 has provided me with tools and strategies for managing stress and practicing self-care. Whether it’s through mindfulness exercises or simply taking a few minutes each day to check in with myself, I have found that these practices help me feel more grounded and centered.
Overall, joining Health 100 at JMU has been one of the best decisions I have made in my college career. The program has helped me to prioritize my health and well-being in a way that feels sustainable and achievable. By focusing on nutrition, physical activity, and stress management, I have noticed tangible improvements in my overall health and happiness. I am so grateful for the support and resources that Health 100 provides, and I would highly recommend it to any JMU student looking to improve their wellness journey.
