Introduction

The International English Language Testing System or IELTS is a popular test for testing English language proficiency of non-native speakers who wish to study or work in English-speaking countries. It measures candidates’ ability to listen, read, write and speak in English. It is a tough exam to crack but with consistent hard work, undivided dedication and support from my family, I managed to score well. In this blog post, I will share my journey and the strategies that worked for me.

My Personal Journey

Preparing for the IELTS exam requires a lot of commitment, determination and perseverance. I started my journey six months before the exam. Since I had a full-time job, I had to manage my time efficiently and carefully plan my schedule. I joined an IELTS coaching centre to get familiar with the format of the exam and to understand the strategies for each section.

Listening Section

The listening section is designed to test your ability to understand spoken English. This section consists of four different recordings, which include conversations and monologues. One of the strategies that worked for me was to listen to English songs and podcasts. It helped me to improve my listening skills and understand different accents.

Reading Section

The reading section tests your ability to understand written English. This section consists of three different passages, and I found that consistently reading English books and newspapers helped me to understand different writing styles and vocabulary.

Writing Section

The writing section is divided into two parts, which require you to write an essay and a letter. One of the strategies I used for the writing section was to practice writing essays and letters every day. This helped me to improve my writing speed and accuracy.

Speaking Section

The speaking section tests your ability to speak English fluently and coherently. I practiced speaking English with my friends and family and even recorded my own voice to evaluate my progress. It helped me to gain the confidence to speak in front of others.

Conclusion

Cracking the IELTS exam is not an easy feat, but it is doable with consistent effort and the right strategies. My journey taught me that consistent practice and dedication are the keys to success. By following the strategies I mentioned above, I was able to achieve my desired score. I hope my personal journey and the strategies I shared will be helpful to anyone preparing for the IELTS exam.
