The perennial debate about who is better – Ronaldo or Messi – continues to be a hot topic in the football world. While both are exceptional players with a long list of accolades and achievements, fans are always trying to find out who is the more impactful player.

To settle the debate, we take a closer look at their individual accomplishments and personal achievements.

Ronaldo has won five Ballon d’Or awards, the European Golden Shoe four times, and has been named the UEFA Champions League top scorer seven times. He’s won the Champions League five times (four of which were won consecutively with Real Madrid), three Premier League titles, two La Liga titles, and one Serie A title. Ronaldo has also won the European Championship with Portugal in 2016, as well as the UEFA Nations League in 2019.

Messi, on the other hand, has won six Ballon d’Or awards, the European Golden Shoe six times, and has been named the UEFA Champions League top scorer six times. He’s won the Champions League four times, 10 La Liga titles, and seven Copa del Rey titles. Messi has also won the Copa America with Argentina in 2021, ending a long drought for his country.

While Ronaldo has accumulated a larger number of honors and awards over the years, Messi’s consistency and longevity in the game must not go unnoticed. In terms of individual statistics, Messi has scored more goals (760 as of August 2021) than Ronaldo (675 as of August 2021).

While their club rivalries might have taken center stage, the two have shown mutual respect for each other on many occasions. In an interview, Messi spoke highly of Ronaldo, saying
“Although we have shared great moments on the pitch, I have always had a good relationship with him. But we know that in football, for the press, for the show, a rivalry is sought, but I have always gotten along well with him.”

In conclusion, the debate about who is better between the two football legends is subjective and will continue to be debated. However, there’s no denying that Ronaldo and Messi have been an inspiration to young players worldwide. They have shown that hard work, determination, and discipline are key ingredients to achieving greatness in football.
